Between classes, sports, clubs, volunteer opportunities, family commitments and plans with friends, it can be incredibly difficult to keep track of everything that needs to get done. Over the next few posts, we will be sharing our Top 5 Tips for Staying Organized to help you feel less overwhelmed and more in control.
Tip #1: Write everything down.
I can’t stress the importance of this enough! There is no need to try to rely on memory when you can easily write down all of your assignments, practices, appointments, and other obligations. You know that planner that your school gave you at the beginning of the year? Use it! Even though many teachers post assignments online, I still highly recommend writing all your assignments somewhere so that they are all together. It is much less likely that something will slip through the cracks if all of your responsibilities are written down in one place. This also makes it easier for your brain to process everything. Instead of having everything floating around in your brain, taking it out of your head and putting it all in one spot clears up brain space so that you can better focus on the task at hand.
While I will personally always be an advocate for good old-fashioned pen and paper, you can also take advantage of the endless technology-based organizational tools for your phone or tablet. In addition to due dates and test dates and practice times, write down each task you need to complete every day and cross it off when it is finished. You’ll feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment and having everything in one place will keep you organized and on top of it all.
