Between classes, sports, clubs, volunteer opportunities, family commitments and plans with friends, it can be incredibly difficult to keep track of everything that needs to get done. Over the next few posts, we will be sharing our Top 5 Tips for Staying Organized to help you feel less overwhelmed and in control.
Do one thing at a time. Multitasking, or doing more than one thing at a time, is often seen as a desirable ability. Think of all the things you can get done if you do four things at once! You can write out your Spanish flashcards in between bites of dinner while trading off between reading your History assignment and trying to memorize your lines for the play. It seems like this would be an efficient way to get everything done, but is any of it being done well? Probably not. I firmly believe in putting your energy and focus into one task at a time so that you can do it and do it well. Write out your Spanish flashcards so that you’re actually paying attention to what you are doing. Then take a break to eat dinner and go back to work to read your history assignment. Finish the history assignment and then work on memorizing your lines for the play. (Don’t forget to cross each item off your list as they are completed! Remember you wrote them all down!) Each task will be done in a methodical way and you won’t be in a frenzy trying to keep everything straight.
