FAQ

Where does the tutoring occur?
Most often, tutoring occurs in the student’s home. Occasionally, tutoring occurs at a coffee shop or local library because it is more convenient for the student or the tutor.

How do I schedule an appointment?
Once you are connected with a tutor, you will schedule all tutoring sessions directly with the tutor.

How often should we meet the tutor?
This is purely a matter of need and preference. Some scenarios require one meeting per week, while others require multiple meetings per week. Some tutoring is more deadline focused based on exams and paper due dates. The tutor can help recommend the proper frequency.

Does Academic Impact provide test prep?
Yes. We provide one-on-one tutoring for the SAT, ACT, and HSPT (High School Placement Test). Test prep is very student-specific and varies based on current scores and goals. Generally, it takes 4-6 hours to cover all of the sections, then students may continue if there are certain problem areas. Many times we pair students with two tutors, one for English and writing and another for math and science. This system has been effective because it provides subject expertise and exposes students to more advice.

How much does tutoring cost?
K – 8:         $50/hour
9 – 12:        $60/hour
Test Prep: $75/hour

There are no minimum hour requirements.

Do you tutor groups?
Yes. Many tutors are willing to tutor groups of students. Costs remain the same until there are three students in the group.

What if the tutor isn’t working out?
Call us! We can communicate with the tutor and coordinate for a new tutor. We understand that not every tutor-student relationship will be fruitful, so don’t hesitate to let us know.
